Fallout New Vegas: Old World Blues is a crazy ride through an abandoned science center now populated by brains that use TV sets to talk and to see. This latest offering from Obsidian Entertainment is filled to the brim with jokes, weapons and perks.

The adventure starts with you being knocked out and having your Brain, Spine and Heart removed by a group called the Think Tank. If you want them back, you’ll need to do their bidding.  The evil Dr. Mobius has your brain, and is threatening the Think Tank with destruction.

Fortunately, Tank members give  you shiny temporary replacements which contribute excellent perks. They then send you on your way to fight the dreaded Dr. Mobius.

As you explore the crater of the Big Empty, strange happenings and paranoia get kicked all the way up to 10. It all culminates in a complete mental mind screw.

The ride is made all the more awesome by the fact that many of the characters are voiced by cast members of Cartoon Network’s smash animated hit Venture Bros. While we won’t spoil the fun by revealing who does what, fans of the series will be pleasantly surprised.

While not the longest DLC in history,  Old World Blues throws new stuff at you at every turn. Before you’ve left the starting area, you’ll have multiple new perks — and probably several new weapons — depending on your speech checks.

But what makes Old World Blues most charming is the unique style of the story. You’ll fight giant dogs and tiny Deathclaws, receive wacky weapons (such as the X-2 Antenna, another Venture Bros. reference), and be surprised and entertained throughout. Overall it’s a surreal and wonderful experience.

Even more impressive is the fact that Old World Blues has its own opening as well as its own mini-ending (not to be missed). The only area in which the experience falls a bit short is that some of the side missions are rather repetitive, but since these are optional I didn’t feel at all cheated.

Overall, this DLC is a good buy for the story alone, not to mention the many perks and weapons you’ll receive from it.
