The free-to-play sensation Alien Swarm has turned one year old, or five depending on how you see it. Alien Swarm is significant as a game that started with a simple source mod in 2005 and became a full game in 2010.
It stands out as inspiration for modders because the original creators were eventually taken into the Valve staff. Jacob’s Rest is the only official campaign, but the modding community has been kind to this game.
They have compiled 40 maps and more that you can get here. Both fans and publishers can only hope to see more stories of the little guy breaking into the industry like this.
